Fastbreak NYC presents the New York City Fists of Fury AKA The K1X Lower Manhattan Classic's "Asian Dream Team" vs. Bounce Magazine in an exhibition game to support Taiwan's relief efforts in the wake of Typhoon Morakot.

Tickets are valid for both the FBNYC "White" League All-Star Game to start at 11:00am, Fury vs. Bounce Exhibition game at 12:00pm and the NY Liberty's season finale at 4:00pm. Seats for the All-Star Game and Exhibition Game are all courtside.

Tickets include food vouchers for the NY Liberty vs. Washington Mystics game that entitle ticket holders to one free popcorn, soda and thundersticks for children.

Fastbreak NYC is bringing its basketball community to New York's Pan-Asian American women by starting its very own Women's basketball league.

As with the FBNYC Men's and Co-ed leagues , our in-depth stat tracking and web-based archives are available for every player and team (current or former) to track their progress over the course of an entire career. Our interactive website is updated daily. For a sample of how our leagues run, check out our current seasons at www.fastbreaknyc.com.

We would like to start the Women's league as early as May 9th and we will schedule around most major tournaments such as the Chinese Nationals on May 22-24, 2009.

LEAGUE DETAILS

The Women's League's inaugural season will cost on only $350.00 per team. This will include 7 games plus playoffs. Trophies and t-shirts will be awarded to the Champions. Jerseys may be ordered at discount prices (if necessary).

Each game will run by mostly NCAA rules and regulations in two 20:00 minute halves. For a full list of the league's RULES & REGULATIONS click here. All games will be officiated by (2) IAABO certified referees.

Games will be played every Saturday from 3-6pm in the Practice Gym at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School (122 Amsterdam Ave. & 65th Street). The Chip will be played in the Main Gym.

Transcending: The Wat Misaka Story Premiere

Join FBNYC for the New York premiere of Transcending: the Wat Misaka story by Bruce Alan Johnson and Christine Toy Johnson. You think Yao--or really Wang Zhi-zhi--was the first Asian baller in the NBA?

No sir, Wat Misaka was drafted by the New York Knickerbockers back in 1947. Playing for the University of Utah, Misaka led his school to the 1944 NCAA and 1947 NIT championships. A 5' 7" point guard, he was a first round draft pick by the New York Knicks for the 1947-48 season. Misaka was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

The screening will run at the lovely Brooklyn Botanic Garden--so nice I used to be a member--during the garden's Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival. Come through for the doc, stay for the blossoms.

SAKURA MATSURI @ THE BK BOTANICAL GARDEN

"Transcending" will be part of Sakura Matsuri, New York City's "rite of spring," which marks its 28th year with over 50 events and performances celebrating Japanese culture and the blossoming of BBG's 220 cherry trees.

Visitors to the weekend-long Cherry Blossom Festival can enjoy a range of performances from traditional Japanese music and dance to concerts by some of Japan's hottest J-pop stars, plus taiko drumming, an anime voice actor panel, bonsai pruning workshops, J-pop DJs, a traditional kimono show, and demonstrations and workshops for all ages.

Bring your camera and join anime comedian Uncle Yo and the World Cosplay Summit Team USA in a giant Sakura Matsuri cosplay photo shoot!

The FBNYC Rock Band contest will have up to (2) rounds. In the 1st rd, every band gets to play a 2-song set. You can't beat that anywhere. Scores will be judged. Degree of Difficulty will be judged. But more importantly, Style and Showmanship will be judged! Actually, they all carry the same weight. Top 4 bands move on to the Final Round to have a 1-song battle to decide who is the FBNYC Rock Band Champ.

All contestants must join as a Band consisting of 2-4 members. At the time of registration, each Band must identify one (1) Band member as the Official Band Leader. You can change your band roster anytime but a notification must be sent to Ren Hsieh. If the Contest has reached maximum capacity, you can opt to put your name on the waitlist. If a registered Contestant / Band is not present within five (5) minutes of the scheduled start time for its game play session, such Contestant / Band will forfeit, and a waitlisted Contestant / Band will be invited to participate instead.

FBNYC Rock Band Contest Rules

By entering the FBNYC Rock Band Contest (the "Contest"), you agree to abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects.

RULES OVERVIEW

Bands will consist of (3) to (4) members who will play the lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and lead vocal. All bands MUST have someone do vocal.
FBNYC will Rock Band for X-Box 360 onsite at the venue. Bands may bring their own equipment but have only 5:00 minutes prep time before set. All new equipment must be ready within those 5:00 minutes.
Every band will perform a 2-song set in the FIRST ROUND. 4 bands will advance to the FINAL ROUND. Bands will play in the order determined by FBNYC to be posted on the website. Contestants will be notified ASAP about their order.
Contestants should be pre-registered but depending on turnout, some bands may be able to register onsite. Only a MAXIMUM OF 16 bands will be allowed to compete.
Bands may choose any of the standard songs in Rock Band or Rock Band 2. Bands who want downloadable content may bring their own systems but must be ready to play in their 5 minute prep window. It is highly recommended that contestants determine their songs ahead of time and practice.
Contestants may play at any difficulty level but higher difficulty levels will mean more points.
Contestants MAY NOT pause the game during their performance. Doing so will forfeit their entry. If any song shuts down to low score, band will not be allowed to re-perform the song.
Drummers must use drum sticks ours or your own--playing with hands or fingers WILL NOT be allowed.
At the end of the song, no band member is to touch any buttons on their instruments until their score is recorded. Doing so will clear their score and forfeit their entries.
If there is a tie for 1st place we will have a Rock Off to determine the winner.

SCORING

Scoring will be done by a panel of (4) judges and is based on SCORE, DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY, STYLE (APPEARANCE) and SHOWMANSHIP. Each category will hold equal value (25%) in determining total scores.

RULES DETAILS

The Contest will start promptly at 3:00 p.m. local time and end at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009. The "Tournament Period" consists of a single round of gameplay to determine (4) finalists who will play one song to determine (1) Overall Champion. When the song / gameplay session is over DO NOT PLAY ANY MORE NOTES! The judges will need to record your score. If you skip past the scoring screen before the judges can record your score, your Band will automatically be disqualified from the Tournament. If all registered members of a Band are not present within five (5) minutes of the scheduled start time for the Band’s gameplay session, the entire Band will forfeit, and the next Band will be invited to participate instead.

At the end of the Tournament Period, the Band with the highest overall score in the FINAL ROUND will be named Champion. In the event of a tie, the tied Bands will participate in a Tie Breaker Round. During the Tie Breaker Round, each Band will play one (1) song of the Band’s choice. At the end of the Tie Breaker Round, the Band with the highest overall score will be named the Overall Champion.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Anyone competing in an unsportsmanlike manner or in a manner that is not in compliance with these Official Rules may be immediately disqualified from this Tournament. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes, but is not limited to, the following violations:

* Unsportsmanlike conduct
* Swearing or threats
* Screaming Harassment
* Lewdness
* Any other type of conduct deemed inappropriate
* Cheating of any sort through various means including devices to add gameplay
* Any other known or unknown way of tampering with gameplay

PRIZES

First Place Champions will receive a prize package to be determined. UPDATES TO THE PRIZE PACKAGE WILL BE POSTED. Second and Third Place Winners will receive trophies, t-shirts and prizes. Prizes already obtained for raffle and Contest winners include: Rock Band 2 for X-Box 360 and PS3, Rock Band accessories and various designer t-shirts and gifts.

LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY

The Promotion Parties (as hereinafter defined) are not responsible for any liability, cost or injury incurred by Contestants/Bands arising out of or in connection with this Competition, including, without limitation, the following.

* lost, late, incomplete, inaccurate, stolen, fraudulent, misdirected, undelivered, interrupted, damaged, delayed entries, or other information;
* any incorrect or inaccurate information or error or defect of any kind regardless of who it is caused by, or the means by which it occurred; or
* equipment, software, network or systems that fail, have viruses or other problems, are breached or that cause injury or damage to participants or their property

By entering this Competition, either individually or as a member of a Band, you agree to, and hereby release and hold harmless Microsoft, its parent company, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising or promotion agencies, and anyone working directly or indirectly on this program, product and promotion, and all of their respective officers, directors, employees and representatives (which for the purpose of these Official Rules will be referred to together as the “Promotion Parties”) from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this Competition or acceptance and use of any prize.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

This Tournament is governed by New York law. You agree that the jurisdiction and venue for the handling of any disputes or actions arising out of this Tournament shall be in the courts of the State of New York. If, for any reason, this Tournament is not capable of running as planned for any reason, including, without limitation, the reasons set forth above, we reserve the right at our sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Tournament. If a solution cannot be found to restore the integrity of the Tournament, we may, at our sole discretion, determine the winners of this Tournament using all non-suspect, eligible entries received before we had to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this Tournament.

We may disqualify you from participating in the Tournament or winning a prize if, in our sole discretion, we determine you are attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of this Tournament by cheating, deception or other unfair playing practices, or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass us, any other entrant or our representatives or if you are otherwise not in compliance with the terms of these Official Rules. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY YOU OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS TOURNAMENT IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM YOU TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Hosts NYC Fury Win 1st Annual WTA Tourney

Thanks to all the teams and fans who came out to play and support FBNYC's 1st Annual Winner Take All 3-on-3 Asian Basketball Tournament. We hope all the participants had as much fun playing as we did running the tourney. MLK HS was buzzing with anticipation and competitive spirit from the first tip-off.

This event is just the first of many we have planned for the future, so stay tuned. Thanks again to all the teams and organizations for their support. SPECIAL THANKS go out to Mr. Choi's grocery and Larry Chow and Maximum Output for all their help and moral support.

ELITE DIVISION

Though every team was able to make the playoffs, only (5 seed) Below the Rim, (3) Team SDR, 2) Maximum Output and host team (1) NYC Fury made it through to the Semi-Finals. Team SDR managed to upset the previously undefeated Max Out and the Fury (also undefeated) handled Below the Rim.

The Finals became a showdown between two big and versatile teams but ultimately, Team SDR, with captain (G) Shawn Delos Reyes hobbled by an ankle injury, was outpaced by (C) John Foss and the Fury. NFY jumped out to an early lead thanks to Foss' low-post prowess which better enabled the play-making ability of (F) Chris Youn and (G) James Choi. (F) Harris Chung was solid in his defense of All-Tourney Team (F) Nic Echevestre. The Fury never relinquished that lead despite solid efforts from Delos Reyes, Echevestre and their big man.

ELITE DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS

Both Maximum Output and the NYC Fury finished pool play undefeated but MXO, led by Asian tourney circuit Hall-of-Famer (G) Oak Nguyen, (C) Darrington Okeruly and (F) Alex Stewart were upset in the Semis by pre-tournament favorites Team SDR. NYF cruised through pool play, facing their toughest challenges in the playoffs, though no opposing team in any game managed to score more than 20 pts.

Below the Rim (G) Jon Scheiman nearly single-handedly lifted his team to the Semis with an array of knee-crunching cross-overs, 3-pt bombs and dazzling dimes. The Asphalt Ninjas with street nice backcourt (G) Wilson Lew and (G) Bang Takenouchi were also a tough out.

Although perennial favorites, the NY Cruisers (back-to-back winners of the Chinatown Summer 3-on-3) struggled in pool play despite a roster of Asian league All-Stars, (F) Tony Hu, (C) George Chan, (G) Stan Yeung and (F) Joe Kim. Still, they're never an easy out and this tourney was no exception.

First round exits NYC-Queens led by (G) Muhammad Begawala and Team WW headed by captain (F) William Wang both struggled as relatively new teams 3-on-3 circuit (including a 31-2 loss by Team WW at the hands of Team SDR) but both showed signs of promise, particularly NYC-Queens' surprising yet solid win over the NY Cruisers.

INTERMEDIATE DIVISION

Unfortunately, the INTERMEDIATE Finals were cut short due to unforeseen circumstances. Finalists (8) Hypebeasts and (3) Team Jason Chan relunctantly agreed to split the prize and the trophies. We can't say enough how much we regret the outcome and we will take steps in the future to prevent any such repeat occurrences.

INTERMEDIATE DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS

The 8th seed Hypebeasts led by All-Tourney (G) Ian Yu, (G) Leon Chu and (C) Howard Chu struggled during pool play but managed to upset (1) Initial D--who had previously beaten HYP on a buzzer-beating 3FG by (G) Austin Han--by getting to the paint with a variety of spins, cuts, cross-overs and post-ups.

Veteran (F) Young Yu was big from the perimeter for the D and he and Han were mad bombers throughout the tournament, Han earning himself an All-Tourney anointment for theatrics.

FBNYC "B" league finalists, (5) G.o.D., rode back-to-back game-clinching 3FGs (the 2nd at the buzzer) by (F) Johnny Lam to a 2-1 pool record. They were able to upset the (G) Kwok Fung-led (4) Villains after Fung dismantled the NYC Fogey in the final pool play game. Lam's last-second heroics and Fung's prowess from deep (not to mention some freeze-frame cross-overs) earned both players a selection to All-Tourney.

In the end, it was Team Jason Chan, led by lightning-bug-quick All-Tourney (G) Jack Ma, coming off a tough win over a much larger Maximum Output team--with 6-7 (C) Jeremy Ko and All-Tourney 6-3 (F) Jason Yee--who defeated GOD to reach the Finals; and the Hypebeasts who overcame a tough Base NYC All-Stars team (the only other team besides Initial D to finish pool play undefeated) led by All-Tourney (F) Min Park, (F) Victor Chia and (G) Henry Jun.

* Players in the 5-10 and Under division may play in ALL divisions. Rosters must all be players of at least 1/4th Asian descent--please read the ELIGIBILITY requirements for what qualifies.

MEN'S INTERMEDIATE

- IAABO officials for playoff games.

* Players in the INT division should be roughly high school level. Competitive players that maybe don't hit the gym as often as they used to. This is technically a MEN'S division but any female players that are confident they can hang are welcome to join. Rosters must all be players of at least 1/4th Asian descent--please read the ELIGIBILITY requirements for what qualifies.

RULES and ELIGIBILITY requirements

All these rules are meant to be very close to the NY Rockits AIA sponsored Chinatown Summer 3-on-3 in order to keep some form of universality of rules. In other words, we're trying to save some confusion by keeping things the same.

1.) Each team will consist of a maximum of (5) players. Rosters must field only players of at least 25% East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Arabic or Pacific Island descent unless otherwise noted. Players will only be questioned about their ethnicity if any of the opposing teams submits an anonymous challenge; then it is up to the player to provide appropriate diligent proof.

2.) Players may play in ALL divisions of the tournament but we STRONGLY ADVISE that players in the ELITE and 5-10 & UNDER divisions use discretion when considering to play in INTERMEDIATE and RECREATION divisions. Please respect your fellow ballers by joining the appropriate division. We reserve to the right to forbid any player from participating in a certain division.

3.) As soon as each team plays their first game, their roster is set; regardless of injury, rosters cannot be amended after a team has started the tournament.

4.) All teams will be guaranteed to play in at least (3) scheduled games during pool play. The playoff round will be single-elimination and in most cases only the Top 2 teams of each 4-team group during pool play will advance to the elimination round. Teams will be notified of any exceptions.

5.) Each game will have a time limit of 20 minutes or the first team to score 30 points scored by 2FGs, 3FGs and FTs. There will be stoppage time in the final 1:00 minute. INTERMEDIATE and RECREATION divisions will have 15 minutes per game or first to score 25 pts. There will also be stoppage time in the final 1:00 minute. Overtime is 1:00 minute stoppage time in ALL divisions. There will be a 24-sec shot-clock in ELITE and 5-10 UNDER divisions.

6.) Possession is LOSER'S OUTS or offense to defense after a score. All loose balls must be taken back outside the 3-pt line to reset the possession.

7.) SCORING: 2 pts for baskets made inside the 3-pt line; 3 pts for each basket made outside the 3-pt arc. Foul shots are worth 1 point each and players will not be permitted to line up on the lane. BONUS: Teams will enter the 1-and-1 BONUS after 5 fouls; teams will shoot 2 foul shots after 7 fouls.

8.) OFFICIATING: Games in INT and REC divisions will be players and organizers from Fastbreak NYC or the New York City Fists of Fury basketball organization. ELITE and 5-10 & UNDER division games will ALL be officiated by certified IAABO referees.

9.) Each player is allowed (5) personal fouls. After fouling out, a player cannot reenter game. TECHNICAL FOULS count as team and personal fouls. All TECHNICAL FOULS are two shots and possession for the opposing team. A 2nd TECHNICAL FOUL will mean an ejection and suspension to the discretion of the league staff. We WILL NOT tolerate disrespectful or aggressive in the way of being hazardous play. THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO FIGHTING TOLERATED. Any players involved in a fight will be immediately ejected from the tournament.

10.) Each team receives (2) time-outs that DO NOT carry over into overtime. Each team is awarded (1) time-out in overtime.

11.) We reserve the right to reduce the number of scheduled games, or shorten games or postpone games due to unforseen circumstances.

12.) Each team must provide their own jerseys--like colors and preferably with numbers.

All games will be played at MLK HS unless otherwise notified. The gym is located down 3 flights from the entrance. Take a right out of the stairwell and follow the sound of the bouncing basketballs. Please e-mail Ren Hsieh if you have any additional questions concerning the location.

All preliminary games will be played on side courts. All side courts have glass backboards and will have 3-pt lines taped to the floor. Playoffs (in ELITE and 5-10 UNDER) and Championship games (ALL divisions) will be played on full-sized courts.
